Electricity vs Gas Prices for Heat Pumps in Europe

The relationship between electricity and gas prices is one of the biggest drivers of heat pump running costs in Europe.

Why the ratio matters

A heat pump uses electricity but delivers more heat than the electricity it consumes. If electricity is much more expensive than gas, the heat pump needs a strong SCOP to compete.

The useful comparison is not one unit of electricity against one unit of gas. It is useful heat after SCOP and boiler efficiency.
